Motorcyclist Hurt in Jefferson City Rear-End Crash

A 49-year-old motorcyclist was reportedly injured in a Jefferson City motorcycle crash earlier this month. The motorcyclist, who has been identified as John Johnson, has what have been described as moderate injuries.

KRCG 13 reports that Mr. Johnson was driving his motorcycle northbound on the 2300 block of Lorenzo Green Drive in Jefferson City when he slowed his bike in order to make a left turn into a private driveway. According to the Jefferson City Police Department, 19-year-old Brett Vanloo was driving a Honda Civic behind Mr. Johnson on Lorenzo Green Drive and failed to maintain a safe distance from the motorcycle. Thus, police report that when Mr. Johnson slowed his bike down, Mr. Vanloo hit him from behind.

Mr. Johnson was taken to Capital Region Medical Center for treatment of his moderate motorcycle accident injuries. Mr. Vanloo was not reported to be injured. Mr. Johnson’s passenger, who has been identified as Karie West, was also reported to be uninjured in this Missouri motorcycle wreck.

In 2011, the most recent year for which complete statistics are available, the Missouri Department of Transportation reports that 2,116 people were hurt, and 82 people were killed in Missouri motorcycle wrecks. Missouri motorcycle accidents increased by 7% when comparing 2011 data to 2010 accident data. August had the highest number of Missouri motorcycle crashes, compared to any other month during 2011.
